Wave Machines, “Punk Spirit”

During a recent long car ride to Richmond, Virginia, in the dead of August without air conditioning (do not ask me about it sometime), I became familiar with many bands: Wave Machines, Katy Perry, somebody called Cobra Starship, Taylor Swift, “Daughtrey,”  that Helen Keller song (the worst) etc. That’s what happens when everyone’s iPods run out of power on the ride home.

Focusing on the positive, Wave Machines is a British synth-pop band with a great single, “Punk Spirit,” with an insanely catch midtempo hook. Like, Coldplay meets Phoenix. Why doesn’t Top 40 radio play this instead?
