The Shins, “Plenty is Never Enough” (Tenament Halls cover)
Merge managed to get some of the best non-Merge bands out there to cover some of the raddest songs in their 20-year history, and the results (Score! 20 Years of Merge Records: The Covers!) are well-worth repeated listens—including this amazing Shins cover of Tenament Halls’ “Plenty is Never Enough.”
If you can’t find something to like in the following partial album line-up, you might need to get your ears checked: Broken Social Scene covering The Clean, Ryan Adams and Death Cab for Cutie each covering Superchunk, Times New Viking covering Arcade Fire, The Mountain Goats and Okkervil River each covering East River Pipe, Ted Leo + the Pharmacists covering Guided by Voices’ Robert Pollard, ET CETERA. I’d post them all, but then I’d get in trouble with Tumblr, so go seek, and listen, and celebrate 20 years of Merge.
